ITEC 2009 provided tangible evidence that the training industry is meeting the challenge of the global economic downturn with pragmatism, innovation and determination.
Staged at BrusselsExpo from 12 – 14 May, the conference and exhibition provided a total of 2,396 attendees with expert insights into the issues that are driving developments in training technology and practise, as well as the opportunity to see new and proven solutions from world leading major players and smaller specialist suppliers.
The senior officers panel on the first morning of the conference, which was headed by Major General Guy Buchsenschmidt, Deputy ACOS Operations & Training for Support, Belgian Armed Forces, was highly praised, as were the presentations in the Innovations Showcase by Col Mark Edgren, USA, Chief, Simulations, Modeling, C4 (SMC4) Joint Warfare Centre, Stavanger and Captain Phillip Buckley, Royal Navy, Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff (Training Capability), Flag Officer Sea Training.
The displays in the exhibition hall reflected all the key areas of training, from advanced synthetic technology to the (very) physical simulation of coping with IEDs. Some stands had networked with each other, demonstrating the advances that are being made in this discipline.
ITEC Show Director, Nina Bushell of Clarion Defence & Security, said, “This year’s ITEC was a great success with both the conference and exhibition very well received. The response from exhibitors has been extremely encouraging with 60% re-booking for next year whilst onsite in Brussels. We had a highly acclaimed conference programme and conference attendance was strong with 462 delegates - slightly higher than at ITEC 2008.”
ITEC 2010 will be staged at ExCeL, London from 18 – 20 May.
