The panel, lead by Major General Karl L E Engelbrektson, Chief of Staff, Swedish Army, delivered a fascinating insight into the future of training and simulation.

MajGen Karl Engelbrektson

Major General Karl L E Engelbrektson is Chief of Staff Swedish Army. From 2014-2016 he was Head of Training and Education Swedish Armed Forces and 2013/14 he was chairman of the NATO Connecting Forces Initiative, Task Force; successfully negotiating new partnerships on behalf of seven nations in view of the NATO summit in Wales. 

Dr Frank DiGiovanni

Frank C. DiGiovanni serves as the Director, Force Training, in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness. He leads the Department's $540M Combatant Commanders Exercise Engagement and Training Transformation program; the development of Live, Virtual and Constructive Training Standards and Architectures; Cyber workforce development and training; and ensuring training is properly incorporated into major acquisition programs. 

Dr Raed Arafat

Dr Arafat is Secretary of State, Head of the Department for Emergency Situations, within the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs. He is the founder of Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD). He holds the Legion of Honour (Chevalier) offered by the President of France, International Emergency Medicine Leadership Award from American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the National Order For Merit (Chevalier and Officer) offered by the President of Romania.

Mr Dan Eliasson

Dan Eliasson is the Director General for MSB since March 2018. Before that he was Sweden’s National Police Commissioner for over three years. Previously, he has been the Director General for the Swedish Migration Agency and the National Social Security Agency, Försäkringskassan. He has also served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice. 

Mr Hans Lindgren

Hans Lindgren is Director, Head of Business Development Business Unit Saab Training & Simulation at Saab. He spent sixteen years in the Swedish Army (Infantry) serving as Company commander and at Brigade staff. He is a graduate of the Swedish National Defence College and has experience in functions at Battalion and Brigade level as well as in Command & Control, Signals & Communication, fire support coordination and Intelligence (ISTAR). 

Dr Lucy Mason

As Head of the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) Lucy provides leadership and direction to the Accelerator and builds strong relationships between defence and security departments within the UK Government, industry, academia and other partners. Lucy has a doctorate in Archaeological Science and expertise in  technology and innovation, digital ethics and identity, social and behavioural science, and horizon scanning.
