Emerging Solutions: Propelling Today's Advances into the Digital Twin Age

This paper outlines combined research and engineering efforts within the Warfighter and First Responder domains utilizing cutting-edge gaming engines, virtual and augmented reality technologies, rapid prototyping, and empirical research to address critical operational training needs for United States Air Force (USAF) Airmen. The general process for requirements development, engineering, test and refinement, and effectiveness evaluation employed by the Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Gaming Research for Integrated Learning Laboratory® (GRILL®) is described herein in addition to lessons learned from real-world game-based training solution creation and implementation with operational customer groups.
