A standard is nothing if users do not apply it. This session provide an overview of use of standards. The first topic explains why the UK MoD has changed their acquisition strategy about flight training. Instead of procuring flight trainers as a self-sufficient standalone system, a common procurement effort has been established to cater most current and future flight training devices with a common synthetic environment, persistent connectivity between air bases and coalition partners and a robust cross-domain security solution. This presentation discusses the importance of well-established interfaces and standards in order to connect a flight training system and take advantage of the services provided through common framework and some of the challenges and possibilities that lays ahead.
