With an HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a PGC in Professional Studies in Education, Paul served as an Engineer (Training Manager) in the Royal Navy (RN) for 24½ years. He spent the first 9 years teaching RN Engineering Technicians (Weapon Engineering and Marine Engineering) Electrical and Electronic Engineering in both classroom and practical laboratory environments. Subsequently his Naval Career was focused on ISO 9000 quality management auditing of training delivery in a wide variety of RN Schools. Following a sea appointment as the Training Officer in HMS INVINCIBLE, he moved to the MOD Defence Equipment and Support (DES) Agency, where he undertook roles in requirement setting and acquisition management of training solutions for ASTUTE Class submarines, T45 Destroyers and QE Class Carriers. His experience in the RN led to achieving Licentiateship of the City and Guilds Institute as well as being a Founding Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management. After leaving the RN in 2012, as a Training Consultant he took up the role of MOD Training Approval Authority within the DES T26 Frigate Project Team prior to joining BAE Systems in Oct 2015 as a Lead Training Solution Engineer. Since joining BAE Systems, Paul has worked on developing training solutions for the UK RN Batch 2 River Class OPVs, DREADNOUGHT Class submarines and latterly has taken up the role of Training Technical Authority for the T26 Frigate build programme.
