Richard Wainess

Dr. Wainess is founder and Chief Scientist at Richard Wainess, LCC, an organization focused on improving learning and assessment through the integration of games, simulations, and other emerging technologies. Prior to forming Richard Wainess, LLC, Dr. Wainess was the Chief Learning Officer and a Principal Scientist at Imbellus, Inc., a technology startup dedicated to changing the way we measure human potential. Prior to joining Imbellus, was a Senior Researcher at the Center for Research on Education, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST) at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Wainess has more than 20 years of experience in instructional design, team and individual performance assessment, and simulation design. Dr. Wainess’ work included research and development on the use of dynamic Bayesian networks to conduct automated assessment of complex tasks in games and simulations for the Office of Naval Research, as well as development and validation of a JPC-1 funded web-based toolkit for the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs for creating and searching a library of military medical training documents, and examining, revising, and creating simulation-based medical curricula.
