Group Captain Ruari Henderson Begg MA RAF
Group Captain Ruari Henderson-Begg joined the RAF in 1993 after completing a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough University. Following Navigator training, he was assigned to the Tornado GR1 and posted to RAF Bruggen. Ruari completed a number of operational and OCU tours on the Tornado GR1/4, culminating in a tour as XO on XV(R) Sqn. After completing Staff College and a short tour in 1 Gp HQ, Ruari was selected as OC Spadeadam, following which he returned to RAF High Wycombe to lead the Air Cap team bringing Gladiator into Service.
Ruari transferred to full-time reserve service in 2024 and is the RAF’s Chief Modelling and Simulation (M&S) Officer, responsible for increasing coherence and effectiveness across the range of M&S capabilities used by the RAF. His route to this is through development of an ecosystem of individual capabilities that use, as far as possible, common standards, architectures, software components and data formats to increase interoperability and data re-use – ensuring that each activity is completed in the most appropriate and effective environment. Ruari is 2 years into this tour and is currently focusing on enhancing coherence in the Operational Training and Synthetic Experimentation areas.
Outside work, Ruari’s focus is on his family and he actively participates in a number of sports including regular Hyrox races and indoor skydiving.
