Colonel Timothy Wright

COL Tim Wright is responsible for Research and Experimentation in the Futures Directorate of the UK Army Headquarters with specific focus on robotics, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence. Most recently, he served as Director for Russia on the National Security Council staff in the Executive Office of the President. He holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
COL Wright spent much of his early career focused on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency in the Middle East. He spent a year in the mountains of Afghanistan and 14 months leading a rifle company in central Baghdad at the height of the Surge. While in command of the 75th Ranger Regiment's Reconnaissance Company (RRC), he deployed multiple times in support of counter-terrorist operations on the Iran-Iraq border, Afghanistan, and in the Horn of Africa/Arabian Peninsula.
As a field grade officer, COL Wright transitioned to focus on decisive action and large-scale conflict. In the Indo-Pacific, he exercised multiple times with U.S. partners and became intimately familiar with the challenges of Army operations in that theatre. In Europe, he commanded 1st Squadron, 2nd Cavalry and led NATO eFP Battle Group – Poland. Following command, he moved to Washington D.C. to serve on the Joint Staff’s Operations Directorate working on Strategic Response and Nuclear Command and Control. He then transitioned to the National Security Council Staff, serving first as Director for Western Europe, then on to Russia Directorate to focus entirely on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
COL Wright graduated from both the United States Military Academy at West Point and the United States Naval War College in Newport, RI. He maintains proficiency in quantitative analysis, including advanced statistics, econometrics, and machine learning.
COL Wright strives to be the best dad he can be to Bronwyn, Griffith, and Fiona while remaining dedicated to fitness and continued intellectual development. He pursues all varieties of outdoor activities with high enthusiasm and middling performance.
